Steve Novick Endorses John Kitzhaber
Former US Senate candidate and grassroots activist Steve Novick has announced his endorsement of John Kitzhaber for Governor.
"John Kitzhaber has spent his entire political career boldly telling the truth,” said Novick. “It will be a pleasure to watch him work with a Legislature that can handle the truth."
Kitzhaber said, “I’m really pleased to have Steve’s support. He is fiercely devoted to Oregon, a great example of Oregon’s tradition of grassroots activism and one of the smartest people I know. I look forward to working with him to create a better Oregon future.”
Steve Novick is a political activist and lawyer. Novick spent nine years working for the Environment Division of the Federal Justice Department, serving as lead counsel on the Love Canal case in upstate New York. Since returning to Oregon in 1996, Steve has spent much of his time battling Bill Sizemore. In 2008, he narrowly lost the Democratic Primary nomination for US State Senate to Oregon House Speaker Jeff Merkley.
John Kitzhaber is a former two-term Governor of Oregon. An emergency room physician from Roseburg by trade, he has also served in the Oregon House of Representatives and as the Oregon Senate President. In his career he enacted many progressive reforms, including the Oregon Health Plan, the Oregon Education Act for the 21st Century, the Oregon Children's Plan, the Oregon Salmon Plan, and he helped established Oregon’s Statewide Trauma System. Since leaving office in 2002, he has continued to work on health care reform, natural resource issues and energy policy, leading several nonprofit foundations and boards.
