Film Industry in Oregon
Diversifying the economy is key to creating jobs
I have received many questions to date about my position on the film and TV industry in Oregon. I am supportive of the expansion of this industry in Oregon, along with other industries that will similarly help to diversify our economy and create jobs, while simultaneously capitalizing on the unique resources and talent that Oregon has to offer.
In my Jobs plan, I outline the important role the Governor will play in diversifying Oregon’s economy into the future. A central component of this should be to retain and attract these “traded sector” employers -- those that sell goods and services outside Oregon. A thriving film and TV industry would be such an employer, highlighting Oregon places and talent for the world.
A strong traded sector is key to more jobs and higher incomes, so Oregon companies that trade outside the state must be a cornerstone of our economic development strategy.
Movie and television crews have taken advantage of the diverse geography of Oregon. Mt. Hood, Bandon, Manzanita, Estacada, Portland, and Harney County have all been featured in recent productions. To learn more about the film industry in Oregon, visit oregonfilm.org.
